Baby names are a thing which you and your child has to live with all through the life. So it would be wise if you spend some time pondering over it before you give your baby a name.

• Everybody in your family is delighted about the newcomer, so you will get a lot of suggestions from all the relatives. Choose the name that you like and not because you are obliged to consent with your mother in law or your sister. Its you who will be calling her with this name 24/7 and not the relatives.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I had decide that if its a girl, then I will call her Ananya. Ananya means unique. There are a lot of names which may sound pretty but have no meaning, I don’t personally like a name without any meaning. So when you sit to choose a name for your baby, you might consider looking for baby name meanings too.

• Though I had decided on my daughter’s name well before she was born, I would advise you not to be too rigid on your chosen name. Sometimes when the baby is born, you feel that the name you have decided, doesn’t go with the new born’s personality ( yes they do have their own character).
• Think before naming your baby, if the name can be turned into a quirky or weird nickname? If yes, then you should avoid that name like a ghost. Children can be very cruel when they tease their peers and you wouldn’t want to see your precious little to come home everyday in tears.
• Inline with the above mentioned point, if you want to your child to have middle name, then make sure their initials sound okay too. David Owen Godfrey will have the initials DOG.
