Alpha Hydroxy Acids( AHAs) have recently become a key ingredient in specialized skincare products. AHAs have become the biggest skincare invention of the past twenty years. Many women find AHA cosmetics dramatically improve the condition and look of their skin. Alphe Hydroxy Acids, also commonly known as fruit acids, are found in natural products such as, citric acid from citrus fruits, lactic acid from sour milk, tartaric acid from wine, and malic acid from apples and other fruits.
Without even realizing the exact reasons for their improved skins, women have used AHAs for centuries. Cleopatra is saod to have bathed in sour asses’ milk, and ladies of the French court applied wine on their faces to keep their skin smooth, supple and blemish free-both these ancient beauty acids are now known to contain AHAs.
How do AHA work: AHAs work by breaking down the protein bonds that hold together the dead cells on the surface of the skin. AHAs then lift them away and reveal the brighter, plumper cells underneath. This gentle process cleans and clears blocked pores, improves your skin tone and softens the look of fine line. You should start to see results within a couple of weeks.
AHA cosmetics are best used under your ordinary moisturizer as a treatment cream. You should avoid applying them to the delicate eye and lip areas. If you have very sensitive skin, like me
you may find they are not suitable for you, but some women experience a slight tingling sensation at first anyway, as the product gets to work.
A word of warning: The glycolic peels which use alpha hydroxy acids are to be used under the supervision of a trained and eperienced cosmetologist, who knows exactly how much percentage of AHAs is needed for your skin. AHAs used in chemical peels, can turn the skin in bad shape. The best way to use AHas is as I said earleir, with moisturizer as a treatment cream.
